A dreamy bedroom is something I think we all aspire to have in our home. Creating a warm, cozy, and personally inviting bedroom is extremely important to our overall health and well-being. After all, we spend more time in the primary bedroom than any other room in the house. Sure, our eyes are shut majority of the time, but setting yourself up for a good nights sleep is all about the ambiance, routine, and feelings you have leading up to the best nights sleep (you hope) to have. (New parents in the trenches… I see you!)
Our master bedroom has been a work in progress for nearly two years. Why? Read on to discover all the details that went into one of my final room reveals in our home tour!

The purpose of a primary bedroom isn’t for “public viewing” and a bedroom isn’t a room where you host guests, so I always suggest that your master bedroom is of the last rooms you invest in when decorating your home.
When deciding where to allocate your time and budget for the home, I always recommend making the kitchen and living areas a top priority. This way, you can get to enjoying the mainstays of your home more immediately and get to hosting friends and family sooner!
Before we get into the bedroom reveal and design details, I wanted to cover a few frequently asked questions surrounding bedrooms.
Q: What bedsheets do you have?
A: I have these bamboo bedsheets from Amazon and LOVE them. I have gotten amazing feedback from my readers who have purchased and many of them said they even received positive feedback from their husbands. So if the husbands notice and comment on new sheets, then you know they are good! A recent note from a follower who has them: it’s best not to wash them in hot water. She said they shrunk up a little on her.
Q: What mattress do you have?
A: We have the Luxe Hybrid Mattress from Lull
Q: Do you love your upholstered bed frame?
A: YES. Read on to discover more about our bed & bedroom behind design.

Neutral Upholstered Headboards for Master Bedroom
How do you know that you’re becoming a real-deal adult? You ask for real practical gifts for Christmas. When my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas last year, I said THIS BED. At first, he thought I was kidding, but I was SO serious! I’ve had my eye on this upholstered king bed for more than 5 years. I first saw it at a house in Homewood, AL and I immediately started searching high and low for “French flange stitched headboards” and eventually found it! When we decided to build a new house, I knew this neutral upholstered bed from Bernhardt was going to find its home here.

Master Bedroom Design Inspiration 2022
Do you find it easy to pull inspiration for your spaces, but when it actually comes down to picking out each element to make sure they all marry together you start to feel pretty paralyzed?
I’ve totally been there! I struggled for years to decorate the spaces in my previous homes and it wasn’t until I started working in the home decor and furniture industry (marketing) when I gained enough knowledge, practice, and confidence to start loving my creations.
But sometimes even I get stuck!
If you’re struggling with the design inspiration and decor of your home, it might be time to reach out to a trusted friend or professional who shares similar taste — in my case I’m lucky that my best friend is also a professional designer.

Ciara from Word Interiors is a Birmingham-based interior designer who specializes in custom design creations for the whole home. As a working mom herself, she understands the importance of having livable spaces that feel elevated, but are manageable for everyday life.
Ciara took complete creative control of this master bedroom project and delivered a perfect proposal that we ran with upon her initial presentation. She worked with some existing pieces that I had like acrylic drapery rods, upholstered bed frame, console table, and comforter, but other than that — everything in this master bedroom got a complete professional makeover!

Things that took this bedroom from basic to beautiful:
Wall Paint. Originally the walls in our master bedroom where a deep forest green. With 11 foot volume ceilings, I knew I wanted color on the walls to help make the room feel more cozy. So when we built the home in 2020 I chose SW Mountain Road and I really liked it! But as my style has evolved I found myself steering towards a more transitional vibe with feminine flair.

When we changed the wall color in our master bedroom from Mountain Road to Blue Gray my husband was convinced it was the same color when he saw it for the first time. It is most definitely not! Our new master bedroom paint color by Farrow & Ball is called Blue Gray.

I’ve found it really depends on the angle and the time of day and lighting that determine what color it reads. In some points of the day, the wall color looks more blue and other times it looks more green. I love this color so much — I find it to be very calming and pleasing!
If you’re looking for the perfect green paint color with blue undertones for a bedroom, I think this is it. I actually love the paint color our designer chose so much, that I decided to paint a little cove in my entryway the same paint color since I had some leftover!
The rest of my house is Sherwin Williams Drift of Mist which is one of the most popular neutral paint colors for 2023.

Nighstands. Our new creamy white nightstands fit the scale of this room so perfectly. Large nightstand are a little harder to shop for, and they are definitely going to be pricier than your standard size. These 2-drawer nightstands are about 36 inches wide. Ciara from Word Interiors can special order these exact nighstands for you. I’ve sourced a handful of similar oversized nightstands for you to shop from here!
Lamps. These light French blue table lamps are large, curvy, and play into the pillows so perfectly.
Custom Pillows. These floral bowood pillows make me so happy! They pack so much punch and are truly the main visual in the room.

Framed Art. Ciara sourced these framed dried butterflies from a local vendor and they are so unique. Gold framed intaglios could give you this same look!
Custom Drapes. These 120 inch cream-colored wool drapes bring a warm and bright feeling to the space. If you are looking for an online store with more custom drape options check this website out! I some 120 inch cream drapes for an amazing price, plus all the hardware you need to re-create the look I have here.

Are you loving how this sweet Southern-inspired bedroom came together? Our new bedroom design by Word Interiors reminds me so much of spending time with my grandmother in her garden and greenroom in Columbus, GA. Ciara did just an incredible job of curating this space just for us! It blends so well into the other spaces in my home, as well as my personal branding & aesthetic.

This wool-braided rug really brings everything together as well. I love how thick and soft it is. However, it does shed quite a lot at first so just keep that in mind. I’ve seen a number of people use this cream wool rug in nursery designs and it looks great!

You know when you find one of those pieces of furniture that just makes you smile every time you look at it? That’s this large armoire in our bedroom does that for me. The details on this wardrobe cabinet are endless. I found it at The Summer Classics Outlet in Birmingham where they sell gently used GABBY products. It’s missing the interior shelves and has a few nicks on the bottom legs but it doesn’t bother me! Ciara has a really cool idea for how to make this piece more functional to store some of my wardrobe, so I’ll consult with her on that down the road!
Across from the armoire on Ty’s side of the room we are still searching for the perfect dresser and either mirror or piece of art for that wall.
While this room still isn’t 100% complete, it is 90% complete and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Sign up for my newsletter to see how the rest of this room rounds out. Ciara from Word Interiors will be showing us soon how to accessorize nightstands like a designer!
I send out a few emails a month where I share design tips, affordable fashion finds, nuggets I’m learning from motherhood and more. I’m excited to connect with you via email and social soon!
