At The Southern Source, we believe hospitality doesn’t stop at your front door.

Sure, we love setting a beautiful table, welcoming friends into our homes, and creating spaces where people feel comfortable and cared for. But to us, hospitality has always been about so much more than entertaining. It’s about noticing people, showing up when you can, and extending kindness—even to someone you’ve never met. That’s why this back-to-school season, we’re inviting you to join us in blessing teachers.

Over the past few days, we’ve collected classroom wishlists from teachers in our community, and today we’re sharing them with you. One of my greatest joys has been watching The Southern Source grow into a community that’s about so much more than home decor and Amazon finds.

I truly believe random acts of kindness make the world go ’round. This platform has allowed me to connect people who are willing and able to give with people who could use a little extra support. What a gift that is.

Andalusia, AL – A note from Ms. Bradley Folmar: I teach 4th grade ELA at a PreK-12 rural public school in south Alabama! There are very limited resources, but I love what I do!!! I can’t wait for the upcoming school year.

Birmingham, AL – A note from Ms. Mackenzie Kahn: My family and I live in Chelsea and for the last 7 years I have taught at a Jefferson County School about 45 minutes from our home. After many prayers, I decided it was time to leave my comfort zone to find a job closer to home and my boys’ daycare. With it being my first year at a new school, the needs seem to be great as I had to leave many of my things behind at my previous school. I would be so grateful to have my wishlist featured as I tried to be very intentional with items that I put on it. Thank you, Meredith, for giving me and other teachers this opportunity!

Chelsea, AL – A note from Ms. Brooke Bullard: This is my second year homeschooling! My oldest will be in second grade, my middle is starting 4K and my youngest is 2 and gets into everything! It’s been such a joy and blessing to teach and watch my daughter learn! We get to spend so much time outside and crafting, some of our favorite things. It’s not always easy but it’s worth it!

Clay, AL – A note from Ms. Alyssa Vickers: Clay Elementary is a title 1 school that’s part of the Jefferson County School System. Being title 1, our teachers serve students who qualify for free and reduced lunch based on their family income. Without saying, this means our students are or close to the poverty level. We have about 600 students in our school in grades PK-5 and our teachers are truly doing mission work to change the lives of these students for a brighter future regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Clay, AL – A note from Ms. Sara Taylor: We are the Cougars! A small Title I school located in Clay, Alabama. I have been a school counselor for several years, but I am now stepping back into the classroom as a 5th grade English and social studies teacher! 👩🏼‍🏫

Gulf Shores, AL – A note from Ms. Lindsay Scogin: Hi! I’m Lindsay Scogin, and I’m excited to begin my 11th year of teaching. Over the years, I’ve taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, and I currently team teach English Language Arts at Gulf Shores Elementary School in Gulf Shores, Alabama. I’m also a National Board Certified Teacher, and I love finding creative, engaging ways to help students become confident readers and writers. Gulf Shores Elementary is part of a growing coastal community that is committed to educating the whole child in a supportive, student-centered environment. Our school serves Pre-K through 5th grade and focuses on helping every child thrive academically and personally. Helena, AL – A note from Ms. Kindall Cornelius: I teach juniors at Helena High. In room 103, we are learning about the American Dream through the stories of The Great Gatsby and A Raisin in the Sun. We study how to deal with hardship and prejudice through our readings of Twelve Angry Men and The Other Wes Moore. Lastly, we are doing everything we can to cram as much ACT skills in English, Reading, and Writing as well as we can before March comes.

Helena, AL – A note from Ms. Whitney Jackson: I am a 4th grade teacher at Helena Intermediate School. We are a school with grades 3-5. I love our school so much and want the best for all of our students!! I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade the past 4 years. This year I am teaching 4th grade but moving classrooms. So any help is so appreciated!!!

Hoover, AL – A note from Ms. Axee Lambert: I am a third-grade reading teacher at a Title I school, and I truly believe that teaching children to read is one of the greatest gifts I can give them. Watching students gain confidence as they become stronger readers is the most rewarding part of my job. Many of our students are transient and face challenges outside of school, but that never changes how deeply they are loved by our teachers. We strive to make our classrooms a safe, welcoming place where every child feels valued, supported, and capable of success. No matter how long a student is with us, we hope they leave knowing they are loved, believed in, and able to achieve great things.

Hueytown, AL – A note from Ms. Holly Preston: I’m a special ed teacher and hueytown high school which is a title 1 school so there is very little parent involvement, especially when it comes to any kind of classroom supplies. Love my school and kids though!! It’s such a special job!!

Huntsville, AL- A note from Ms. Ashley Merchant: I am a second year teacher who had a very rough first year but is super excited to be teaching 3rd grade this year!! I have heard amazing things about my schools community and the work that has been put in to bring the school and community together. I am thrilled to be able to help foster even more of that connection through my classroom.

Irondale, AL – A note from Ms. Kat Wates: My name is Kat Wates! I am a kindergarten teacher at GCS (a Jefferson County school). We serve amazing kids and families at our school who work incredibly hard to come to school daily ready to learn and grow! We are a Title I school, which means sometimes extra support from our hard working families for additional supplies is harder to rally! I love where I teach. Everyday I try to show up and create ordinary magic! In my classroom we lean into thematic units complete with classroom decor, read alouds, cross curriculum activities, science, and art! I end of purchasing a lot of materials personally because I want to ensure my kids have an engaging and exciting education that draws them in to be curious in the world around them! I work at a high needs school with students who have experienced deep levels of trauma and truly just want to feel loved. I teach fifth grade, and I tell my students every day: “in case no one told you today, I love you.” My students know that my classroom is a safe space where they know they are accepted and can be who they were created to be.

Munford, AL – A note from Ms. Hannah Montgomery: I am a kindergarten teacher at the sweetest school in a small town in Alabama!

Northport, AL – A note from Ms. Caroline Colburn: I grew up in this school and previously taught at Verner Elementary for 6 years. I wanted to be closer to my little girl and our house. I am from Northport and went to TCHS. Huntington Place is a small, neighborhood school. We are 3rd and 4th grade only and our #1 priority is our students and community. The administration is phenomenal and supportive and I’m honored to be able to teach there.

Northport, AL – A note from Ms. Kate Johnson: Hi! My name is kate and I am a first year fourth grade teacher. I recently graduated from the University of of Alabama. I have accepted a job at an awesome title one school in Northport, Alabama. Most of the precious babies there come from low class families and rely on their teachers for a lot of support. Starting a classroom on top of this is hard especially when my top priority is my students and making sure they are cared for and have the best learning experience. As teachers, we all know every little bit helps!

Trussville, AL – A note from Erin McGough: Hey there!! Thank you so much for doing this! My name is Erin McGough I teach 3rd grade math and science at Paine Elementary! This will be my 2nd year of teaching. I actually went to Paine Elementary when I was a child! It has been full circle to give back to the community that gave me so much! Trussville, AL – A note from Ms. Savannah Strange: I am so blessed to teach at the largest elementary school in Alabama! Our 3rd grade team is made up of 12 incredible teachers who work together to give our students the very best. I teach math and science while my partner teacher teaches ELA and social studies, allowing us to pour our hearts into the subjects we love most. Being at such a large school is amazing because of the opportunities it provides, but it also means that our budget is often stretched to cover needs before wants. We are so grateful for what we have and are always looking for ways to make learning even more engaging, exciting, and meaningful for our students. Anything from my classroom wish list would make a huge difference and help create memorable, hands-on learning experiences for the children in my classroom.

Tuscaloosa, AL – A note from Ms. Asya Hollis: I am going to be a first year 5th grade teacher at a title one school. Most of my students come from unfortunate backgrounds. I chose this school because I wanted to help students learn and feel love that they might be lacking elsewhere. I grew up wanting to be a teacher. My grandma was a sub and she was the biggest inspiration I had. I lost her back in 2024 and getting to live this dream of mine is the biggest blessing ever. I had these kiddos during my internship in kindergarten and am very familiar with their needs. This school is an underprivileged school and the kiddos need lots of support. With this, I have used a lot of my money to provide for these kids to make sure they have a safe and fun learning environment. School is a lot of the kiddos’ safe places. Tuscaloosa, AL – A note from Ms. Leila Kate Otte: Cottondale is so sweet! It’s a small, blue collar community where everyone helps one another. We have many children whose parents work hard to put food on the table, and often times there isn’t enough leftover to buy school supplies in this economy. As a foster mom, I have seen what something “new” can mean to a child. It can change their entire outlook. My goal with my list is to provide an amazing educational experience for my students with new books, new supplies for everyone, some new math games, and even a few new recess toys. Tuscaloosa, AL – A note from Ms. Makennah Todd: It’s hard to believe I’m heading into my fourth year of teaching. After two years of teaching in high school, taking the leap to elementary – it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I absolutely love teaching at Verner Elementary and getting to be part of such an incredible school community. Getting to teach in my hometown of Tuscaloosa makes it even sweeter. Between coaching the Crimsonettes and spending my days with some pretty amazing kiddos, I’m constantly reminded why I love this city so much. This includes any types of cleaning supplies, tissues… Things students need all of the time, and that most teachers pay for out of pocket.

Fayetteville, AR – A note from Ms. Jenny Richardson: I have spent the last 10 years teaching in a title 1 school in Memphis, TN, where I was so passionate about my students and school community. When I moved back home to Fayetteville I knew I wanted to work at Asbell because of how many amazing things I hear about it. It is a beautifully diverse Title 1 school, where teachers are passionate about giving their students the best well-rounded education. The sense of community is so strong and I am so excited and grateful to get to be a part of it! (over 40 countries represented.!) because of this we do have a high migrant population and many Student needs. Columbus, GA – A note from Ms. Staci Ireland: I am a 4th grade math and science teacher. I have been at my current school for 6 years, but teaching for 11 years. Beaufort, SC – A note from Ms. Chloe Seebode: Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to work with young kids and make a difference. Just like my teachers did for me. If it were not for my teachers, I would never have become the strong and determined woman I am today. That being said, I just graduated from the University of Alabama with honors and this will be my first year teaching. I will be a 3rd grade math and science teacher, alongside my best friend from college who will be teaching 3rd grade ELA and Social Studies. I am so excited for this upcoming year! The school I will be teaching at is a public charter school K-12, with amazing staff and faculty. They are a Project Lead the Way based school, which makes me so excited as I have always loved science. I am looking forward to seeing the impact I make on my students and to all the wonderful memories I will make this first year!

Beaufort, SC – A note from Ms. Maddie Roberi: I am a first-year 3rd grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Bridges Preparatory School in Beaufort, South Carolina!! Fountain Inn, SC – A note from Ms. Sydney Roberson: I joined Fountain Inn High School in 2023 after my sixth year of teaching, and it quickly became home. As a newer school built in 2020, Fountain Inn is always looking for creative ways to help students learn and grow, and I’m so grateful to be part of it. We are the Fury, and we remind students every day to rise up. I teach Chemistry, Physics, and AP Environmental Science, and I love making science hands-on, engaging, and fun. My goal is to help students build confidence and realize that science is something they can do—not just memorize. One of my favorite things about Fountain Inn HS and the town is our community. Even though we’re a small town, the support from our families, coworkers, and local community is incredible. I’m also the head coach of our girls’ lacrosse team, where I get to help students grow both on and off the field. Whether it’s in the classroom or on the lacrosse field, I love helping students learn, challenge themselves, and celebrate their successes.

Johns Island, SC – A note from Ms. Lauren Kelty: As a teacher, my goal is to make my class a fun and fulfilling place for all of my students to learn. This wishlist will help me accomplish that goal in support of academic achievement in a South Carolina public school.

Simpsonville, SC – A note from Ms. Blair Brading: I’m returning back to the classroom after taking 10 years off to raise my kids. My youngest is starting kindergarten so here we go! Charlottesville, VA – A note from Ms. Christina Wolfe: As I begin my 11th year teaching second grade, I’m feeling especially grateful for the incredible community that surrounds my classroom. I teach at a Title I school where many of our families simply don’t have the financial means to donate classroom supplies, even though they are always so supportive in other ways. This fall, I’ll be welcoming my second baby just before the school year begins, so I’ll be out on maternity leave for the start of the year. My goal is to make sure my students and my long-term substitute have everything they need for a smooth, successful start.
