I have to admit, I wasn’t a part of the Trader Joe’s hype crew for the longest time. I never really understood the concept and I tend to steer away from things with a lot of hype because I try to stick with the basics. But, it looks like Trader Joe’s is here to stay in the South, and I’m happy to report that I’ve hopped on board!
I started shopping at Trader Joe’s routinely since starting the FASTer Way to Fat Loss. Their cauliflower rice is making low carb days a cinch! And I’ve really enjoyed shopping there for the produce, meat, and coconut coffee creamer, but I am quickly learning that their snacks are the BOMB!
The Trader Joe’s Truth
It took me a few traumatic trips on Sunday to really get the hang of shopping at Trader Joe’s, but it has recently become a part of my Sunday grocery shopping routine. Before starting the FASTer Way to Fat Loss, I wasn’t grocery shopping. I was so far removed from the grocery store experience and meal planning benefits, that I was having someone else shop for me via Shipt. Y’all, that is BAD! Let me remind you, I do work full-time, but I don’t have any kids so my excuse for a personal shopper decreases a bit.
For almost a year, my excuse for not grocery shopping was that I was too busy. I was convinced that I was far too busy to consciously plan meals and grocery shop for my husband and me, but in reality, I just lacked the motivation to restructure.
This is why I’ve loved starting the FASTer Way to Fat Loss program. It has helped me realign with my passion for cooking and has given me back my respect for food (and then some)!
What is all the Trader Joe’s Hype?
Right off the bat, you might know Trader Joe’s for their insanely impressive flower assortment or their fresh produce. We have fallen in love with their meat selection, which is a testimony, considering I really only like to get mine from Whole Foods and Fresh Market. It’s nice that I can cut out a grocery stop, by now getting my meat, produce, and snacks all at Trader Joe’s.
Healthy Snack Shopping
Finding healthy snacks at your typical grocery store can be kind of hard. Stores like Publix and Target are filled with aisles of crappy kid snacks, full of preservatives and sugar. It’s hard to weed through them all to find healthy adult snacks, which is why I love Trader Joe’s. (My current Trader Joe’s snack go-to are the Coconut Sesame Seed Clusters!)

She’s a pro at Trader Joe’s Hauls and knows more than the average person, mainly because unlike most of us born and raised in the South, she grew up going to Trader Joe’s in California. Here’s Lauren to tell you more about her love for Trader Joe’s and her favorite snacks!
Trader Joe’s Snacks

I LOVE Trader Joe’s. Being from Southern California, I grew up with it my whole life! Needless to say, I was ecstatic when it came to Texas. I now can walk to one and it’s the best thing ever. I love Trader Joe’s because not only does it remind me of home, but it’s super easy and fun to shop there. There’s something about the atmosphere and employees that make this store super welcoming. I also love their prices – it’s pretty hard to beat. They also have such a fun variety of all types of food: their frozen meals are top notch, and their snack game is endless. They specialize in seasonal items that keep you coming back each year and who doesn’t love their sample section! I could go on and on but I truly do love it and love that overall their items are quite healthy too! Here are my top picks for snacks at Trader Joe’s:
Unexpected Cheddar – Yall. This stuff is a game changer, and what I call my “party trick”. It is so dang good with crackers and everyone LOVES it trust me on this – go run and get it.
Roasted Plantain Chips – I LOVE these for a guilt-free- healthy salty snack they are great on their own or amazing with salsa and guac too! Warning – they are very addictive.. don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Frozen Acai Packets – these are perfect to add to a smoothie or smoothie bowl, couldn’t be easier just add some frozen bananas or other favorite frozen fruit.
Bagged Popcorn – all of their popcorn is super simple in ingredients (I’m talking 2-3 only the popcorn, an oil and salt) I personally love the heirloom popcorn with pink salt and avocado oil and their classic olive oil popcorn!
Nuts – literally all of them. They have the best selection and have every kind you can think of. They also have some that are pre-packaged into snack sizes which is super helpful for when you’re on the go!
Gone Bananas and Gone Berry Crazy – these are chocolate covered bananas and strawberries in the frozen section! They are SO yummy.
Any and All Chips – another thing TJ’s kills it at is their chip game. Tortilla, potato you name it – they are great and also made with very few ingredients. My favorite tortilla is the “Organic Salted Corn tortilla chips and my favorite potato chip is the “Ode to the Classic Potato Chip”
Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips – had to give this one it’s own shout out bc it’s so different and so good! – pair with a seasonal fruit salsa!
