I’m on my fourth month of the LUXE program at Skin Wellness Center and am loving it! For my first treatment we did Microneedling and if you’re wondering if it hurt, you should read more about it here. For my second treatment a month later, I didn’t have as much “down” time to devote. So, the experts at Skin Wellness suggested we do a Hydrafacial and let me just tell you, the results are almost immediate!

What is a Hydrafacial?
Many of you may might be more familiar with a treatment called microdermabrasion. This was a buzzword for many years in the skin industry, but the Hydrafacial is quickly replacing it! Rather than blasting the skin with a harsh gritty tool, the Hydrafacial pen takes a gentler approach to vacuums out pores, all while pushing in potent actives, which moisturize, brighten, plump, and protect.
Steps of a Hydrafacial Treatment: (You can expect the full treatment to take around 30 minutes)
Step 1: Cleansing and exfoliation
Step 2: Acid peel
Step 3: Extractions
Step 4: Serum application
Step 5: Red Light Therapy
Step 6: Apply antioxidants and peptides
The Hydrafacial treatment is not painful but also doesn’t feel like a gentle facial massage. If you are having treatments on the face, there is feeling involved. That said, the Hydrafacial would be a great treatment to start off with! Very little discomfort, little to no downtime and quick results!
Southern Source Side Note:
I had someone ask me about doing a Hydrafacial treatment before her wedding, and what a great idea! Yes. I would definitely book yourself a Hydrafacial before your wedding or events. I would say the results are most noticeable within the first 3-4 days so you’ll want to plan accordingly.
JULY 2019 – SKIN UPDATE
In January I took a break from doing the LUXE program and in April, I noticed my skin was starting to become angry with me, meaning breakouts galore! In May, I decided to try and quick-fix it with some products I had been hearing SO much about online and on social media. Everyone was raving about what BeautyCounter was doing for their skin so I thought I’d try them out. I order over $100 worth of BeautyCounter products and unfortunately, I think they made my problems worse. See photo below.

breakouts, redness, etc.
Desperate to find a solution, I rejoined the LUXE program at Skin Wellness Dermatology in Homewood where I get one skin treatment per month, plus a consultation with their aestheticians. Turns out all the products I was using were drying out my skin and causing severe inflammation and breakouts. With their advice, I decided to quit everything I was doing and start going to Skin Wellness Center for a hydrafacial treatment once a month. Along with the hydrafacial, I changed my products:
Morning
- Skinceuticals Soothing Cleanser
- SkinBetter Science Alto Defense Serum
- Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream
Nighttime
My skin has improved SO much in just a few months and I’m so happy with the results! I am excited to continue this LUXE program and regimen to see further results.
As a part of the LUXE Program, you can choose from a number of different treatments each month. I am doing Level 2 right now.
