Okay, let’s be real. If you’re from the South, your weekends are pretty much owned by weddings and football all calendar year. This is nationally known and is laughable from the outside, but it’s a real thing. Even The Knot warns brides of avoidable wedding dates if you’re planning to be married in the great state of Alabama, and SPOILER ALERT: they are all in the Fall.
This is such a bummer because the Fall really is an ideal time to be married in the South. The weather has finally climbed off the double digits, guests’ summer vacations are coming to an end, and best of all, it is typically a dry month (yay for no rain!).
Getting Married in the South During Football Season
If there’s a perfect date for a southern wedding, it has to be the last weekend in October. The University of Alabama always takes their “Bye Weekend” on this date, and this year something magical has happened for all southern wedding parties… Both Alabama and Auburn are off on October the 27th!!
Fall Wedding in Alabama
We were able to lock down the last weekend in October for our Fall wedding in Birmingham, AL back in 2016, and thank goodness! We actually ended up having ours on a Friday and loved it just as much. Sharing some photos below from our October 28th, 2016 wedding!
