Strawberry Margarita with Ginger Beer
The idea for this Strawberry Ginger BeerRita cocktail came from a margarita I ordered a few weeks ago at Cantina Loredo, an upscale Mexican restaurant in the heart of Uptown in Birmingham. It is within walking distance to the BJCC concert hall, so if you’re ever in Birmingham for an event, this is a great restaurant to check out and grab a Strawberry Margarita beforehand!
My mom and I went to Cantina Laredo a few weeks ago before attending Theresa Caputo’s LIVE Experience. We had gotten free tickets and decided to go because we’ve always been intrigued by her show on TLC called “Long Island Medium.” She’s really funny, and some parts of the show were quite touching, but my biggest epiphany of the night came when I ordered the Ginger Mint Mango Rita!
Why have I never thought to put ginger beer with tequila? I love a good margarita, but sometimes wish it had more effervescence. When you add bubbles and fresh fruit to tequila, it really makes a cocktail sing!
Ginger Beer Margarita
I have partnered with Barritts Ginger Beer for a recipe to make your very own Strawberry Ginger BeerRita at home! If you’ve never tried ginger beer, it is simply amazing! I got a great question from a viewer the other day on Instagram when I went live to demo this new recipe. She wanted to know if this ginger beer was gluten-free and the answer is yes! Ginger beer is actually a ginger flavored soda, so it technically isn’t a “beer” and does not contain alcohol. It makes a great mixer, and pairs well with any type of liquor. Barritts has a regular ginger beer, and a diet, giving the opportunity to make this Strawberry Ginger BeerRita “skinny.” I love Barritts because of the taste. Some ginger beers can be a little on the spicy side, but this one is mild in that department. It gives you the chance to build your own flavors and levels of spiciness!
Strawberry Margarita Ingredients
- Silver Tequila
- Fresh Limes
- Fresh Strawberries
- Barritts Ginger Beer
Jalapeno Infused Tequila
As I mentioned before, Barritts Ginger Beer isn’t super spicy, so you can add more kick by infusing your own liquors. It’s very simple, and a great way to elevate your cocktail game while playing around with flavors. To make Jalapeno infused tequila for this Strawberry Ginger BeerRita cocktail recipe, all you’ll need is one jalapeno pepper. If you want to infuse a big bottle, you may want two. I only wanted a little, so I added some tequila to a Mason jar, split the jalapeno pepper down the middle, and dropped it into the jar. Refrigerate for 6-8 hours or up to 2 days.
How to Make a Strawberry Puree
Add one package of fresh strawberries (destemmed) to a blender, food processor, or a bowl if you want to use an immersion blender. Add 1/2 cup of water and blend until smooth. Strain contents through a fine mesh strainer to catch any remaining strawberry seeds. Refrigerate strawberry puree until ready to mix your cocktails.
Recipe Prep Steps:
- Grab Barritts Ginger Beer from the mixer/soft drink aisle in your grocery store
- Infuse tequila with jalapeno (optional)
- Puree strawberries and strain (1 package of strawberries should make enough puree for about 8-10 drinks)
- Juice your limes (you’ll want one whole lime per drink) So might want to get 8-10 limes at the store
