Grocery shopping – some hate it and some love it, but we can all agree it has to be done. Here at The Southern Source, we’re all about making life easier and more manageable. Now, I’m no home organizing guru but I do know that getting organized is a crucially important step in simplifying your grocery shopping, food prep, and meal-making routine.
So, today I’m excited to show you how I turned my pantry from a wire rack wreck into a pretty and organized pantry. Stick around to see what’s in my latest grocery haul from Publix!
Be sure to shop in-stores or online at Publix.com to access their 10/23 Extra Savings flyer. There are some new items on this specific flyer with amazing savings! If you don’t see the flyer at the kiosk, ask for one at the customer service desk.
Recently I picked up a few new items at Publix, and I wanted to tell you about them! Best of all, you can save on these items through November 5th. Just look for the at-shelf signs located throughout the store, which highlight the savings during the promotion!
There’s nothing I love and need more than a big water bottle! Do you struggle to reach your water intake each day? I sure do! I love having Talking Rain AQA Alkaline Water on hand in the fridge to grab when I’m in a hurry and need to get out of the door. Right now, at Publix, you can get a 12-pk of Talking Rain AQA Alkaline Water for $12.99.
Another item I restocked in my pantry during the Extra Savings event at Publix is lubricated drops for my eyes. I don’t know if it’s the weather changing or what – but my eyes have been extremely dry lately! Stock up on Thera Tears products at Publix through November 5th and get $3 off Thera Tears products of your choice (shelf price reflects discount).
For smaller first-aid pantry items, I like to keep them organized in these clear bins so that I can easily see where everything is in my pantry at a quick glance.
DIY Floating Shelves to Cover Wire Racks in Pantry
When we moved into our new build this past Summer, I was so happy to have a walk-in pantry! But the wire racks were killing my vibe so I took to Pinterest to look for an easy and affordable solution for how to cover wire racks. The solution only took 1-2 trips to Home Depot and I achieved DIY floating pantry shelves for around $100! Here’s how:
- Measure your shelves – I have these L-shaped pantry shelves, so I took measurements of both rack’s length and depth. You’ll also need to measure the lip of the rack. Mine was about 2 inches tall.
- Go to Home Depot and have them cut thin plywood to your large measurements. Their big cutting machine won’t be able to cut your thin strips you’ll need to cover up the lip of the rack, so you’ll need to rent a saw
- Rent a saw or phone a friend with a saw to cut the lip or facade
- Get the spray paint color of your choice. I chose white matte and spray-painted both sides of the plywood. Let dry completely.
- Place painted plywood over the top of your wire shelving
- Place the small facade piece and cover the front of the wire shelf and use tiny nails to nail wood together. TIP: you might use a nail gun, but I just manually did this. It was a little bit of a pain since the wood is so thin. I used TINY nails!
- DONE!
Now you have white floating shelves in your pantry! Next, you’ll just need to organize all your pantry and grocery items into clear bins to get that famous “The Home Edit” look.
I’m pleased to say that 5 months later that my new pantry organization system is still intact. Sure, some of the bins overflow at times, and I’ve added a few new small kitchen appliances into the mix, but I’m still loving the way these DIY floating shelves look and function in my pantry.
