It’s time to start getting in your Summer groove! Make plans to get the gang back together, get sweaty in style, and splurge on your summertime staples. Here are a few things to do in May to get you ready.
1. Splurge on a Swimsuit
Amazon fashion is all rage right now. It’s definitely a great place to score affordable, trendy swimsuits — and quick! (thanks to Two-Day Prime Shipping). However, nothing looks and feels quite as good as a high-quality, designer swimsuit.
In my experience, cheaper suits tend to fit strange in all the wrong places, and I feel like they can add insult to injury because most women cringe at even the thought of putting one on!
Over time I have found that splurging on 1-2 good swimmies a year is more beneficial than filling your drawers with weird fitting counterfeits. Here are a few of my favorite swimsuit brands and styles for Summer.
2. Plant Some Stuff
We recently spent an afternoon sprucing up our backyard and I love these large grey pots from Home Depot. I filled them with large Kimberly ferns and they have given the space new life. We also planted some lemongrass to help keep the mosquitos away while we enjoy our patio!
3. Get Sweaty
With temps starting to rise in the South, it’s inevitable that you’re about to start a full-on, 4-month sweat.
So, why not go all in and try cycling! I have recently become obsessed with cycling studios. I know we (the South) might be tardy on this trend, but better late than never! More and more cycle studios are starting to pop-up in Birmingham. Here are a few to try and why not look cute doing it!
4. Clean Out Closet
Marie Kondo, we hear you! Some of us just haven’t gotten around to organizing our entire house just yet.
If you need somewhere to start, now would be a great time to reorganize your closet. Time to put those dresses, sandals, hats, and swim suits all within arms reach.
You might need some inspiration and materials to get started on this project, and my favorite place to get organization content is from The Home Edit. This team of home organizers is close to launching their own storage products at The Container Store! If you haven’t heard of this hilariously OCD organizing-duo, check them out! They truly know how to get a messy-girl (ME) wanting to clean.
5. Start Summer Skin Prep
After the dry winter months, our skin is in desperate need of hydration. Not only does your skin need to recover from winter’s harsh elements, but it’s also time to prepare for the summer sun.
Wearing sunscreen (while essential) isn’t the only summer accessory to healthy, glowing skin. Here are some products I have recently been using that I’ve seen success with.
- BeautyCounter Clear Pore Cleanser
- SkinBetter Alto (antioxidant) Defense Serum (morning)
- EltaMD Sunscreen (morning)
- SkinCeuticals Micro-Exfoliating Facewash
- Beauty Counter – CounterMatch Moisturizer (night)
- Beauty Counter Resurfacing Peel (night)
6. Stay Connected: Get the College Gang Back Together
Hello PTO! Time to take those vacation days and make the most of them.
We just recently got one of our college gangs back together in the mountains of Tennessee, and it was so nice to unplug in Gatlinburg. Another trip is already in the works for June and we’re thinking of booking a house through VRBO and heading down to Fort Walton, FL. Any recommendations? Where are you all headed for Summer vacay?
7. Sit Back & Relax
This past August, we reconfigured the furniture on our back patio and I’m loving how it turned out. We now have a place to dine outside, and then retreat to a more comfortable area where we can continue entertaining on our outdoor sectional.
If you’re looking to reimagine your patio space, grab some inspiration here. I’ll be updating some photos soon of the outdoor space, as we’ve recently updated some of the furnishings with Summer Classics. The layout and color palette is still the same, we just updated a few pieces. We got all of it on sale! — Find a store near you and be sure to sign up for their updates for the best times to buy outdoor furniture.
