Our Tuscaloosa tailgates survive the first few blistering months of football season thanks to our cooler equipment. Cold beer, skinny Yellow Hammers, and appetizers have never tasted so good, or lasted so long!
Tailgating on Gameday in the SEC
Tailgating in the South is no joke, and shouldn’t be taken as such. Many schools in the SEC close off parts of campus days in advance so that fans can have special access to their tailgating area.
You won’t find any actual truck “tailgates” down at universities like Auburn, Alabama or Ole Miss… There is a pretty strict “no automobiles” allowed policy, and we like it that way!
Tailgating is a time-honored tradition and is most Southerners favorite spot for socializing during football season.
How to Tailgate in the South
This all-day ritual starts for some as early as 5 AM. Claiming your primetime spot is essential, but if you have a pre-fab setup provided by Tailgate Guys you’ve got it somewhat “made in the shade.” (Trust that you’ll need a durable tent for tailgating anywhere!)
We all know that food, beer and fandom are the non-negotiables that make a tailgate great. So, if your brews and dips are lacking the proper storage, the morale can start to dwindle pretty quickly. Investing in an effective cooler is key; especially in the South, where it’s 80 degrees (+) for the majority of the calendar year.
Tailgating Gear and Supplies
There are a few things we never leave the house without when packing up for our weekend tailgates in Tuscaloosa and the YETI coolers are at the top the list.
These folks make awesome products for all different types of lifestyles and sporting categories like, hunting, fishing and tailgating (and let’s face it tailgating is basically a sport!) YETI has elementally become a part of the Southern lifestyle, and football rituals are considered by most to be a hallmark in true Southern traditions.
The NY Times wrote a pretty cool article about the YETI brand and how Southerners have adopted their products as a way of life. YETI stopped by our tailgate to snap some shots of our gameday gear and we made it into the write-up! Literally, so COOL! You can read the entire article here.
