Why Bake Your Bacon
Baking bacon in the oven is so much easier. You can just throw some bacon on a baking sheet and you don’t have to worry about flipping or cleaning up a bunch of splatters like you would if cooking in a frying pan on the stovetop. I usually like to place parchment paper on the baking sheet or if I don’t have parchment, I’ll use Reynolds Wrap tin foil. I saw this cool trick with tin foil that I’ll use occasionally. You can check out a full video tutorial on Life Hacker, but basically, you fold it backward and forwards making a fan-like structure that mimics a baking rack. This helps the bacon to cook evenly and allows it to crisp up, just like you like it.
Southern Source Side Note:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. There’s no real need to wait until the oven comes up to full temperature. You can go ahead and put bacon in and let it heat up with the oven. This will actually prevent the bacon from seizing up and shrinking from the high heat. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until desired crispiness.
Use Bacon in These Recipes
We’re throwing bacon on lots of things these days. It just adds so much flavor to whatever you’re making. Add it to a homemade pizza, deviled eggs, or use it as a garnish on your bloody mary bar.
Whatever you decide to use it on, baking it is the way to go! Try it once and you’ll never pan fry it again. Tell us in the comments how you’re using bacon in your cooking!
