One Room Challenge

Long time, no blog post! As the landscape of social media changes and has moved to more short-form content over the years the blog posts have dwindled. Do you still enjoy reading blogs online?

I’m excited to kick it old school with you over the next 8 weeks as I participate in the One Room Challenge design contest!

The One Room Challenge® is a biannual event every spring and fall. Everyone with a blog or Instagram account is welcome to join the fun as a Guest Participant by registering for the event with the room or space you plan to transform.

Over the next 8 weeks, I’ll be transforming Emma’s playroom in our new home. I’m excited to take you through my design process and progress each week.

Whenever I start scheming a room design I always start with the most important thing which is ripping off the bandaid.

Just simply STARTING if often the hardest part in life, am I right? Designing a room design is no exception, and the average homeowner often asks, “Ok, but where do I start when designing a room?”

I’m not a designer by trade, but I’ve worked in the home industry for over 5 years, and I have owned and decorated 3 homes so I’ve come up with my own formula on how to design a room and I’m going to share that with you over the next eight weeks.

Q: Where do I start?

A: When designing a room I always start with taking inventory of what I already have. For Emma’s playroom, I have one major piece that is important for me to incorporate so I have based the entire room design off of that.

You may recognize this piece of art that I already own if you’ve been following me for a while. I had it commissioned for Emma’s nursery and it’s super special and I love the colors and whimsy of it.

I’ll be playing off of the colors, shapes, and desired function of the room to make this a space a fun place for my 2 year old daughter to play!

Here is a breakdown of what else I’ll be covering over the next 8 weeks during this room challenge!

Fall One Room Challenge® ’23 Posting Schedule

Week 1 – September 27th – Day Bed Install

Daybed Source | Set of 3 – Scalloped Baskets

Week 2 – October 4th – Play mat install

Any seagrass and natural fiber carpet lovers out there? I love the look, but *ouch* it can be pretty rough on the feet! This wall to wall seagrass natural carpet was already installed when we moved into our new house, which was great! However, for a playroom I knew we’d want something a little more plush on the ground for playing and tumbling. I stumbled across this play mat that’s one big puzzle so you can configure and move it around as you see fit.

It was extremely easy to install, but my favorite part is the design and aesthetic it gives. This children’s playroom mat has a turkish/oushak rug print that gives it a vintage rug look! This addition has already induced more play for Emma in this room and I’m so excited to keep the design going! Up next, I need to choose a paint color! Any ideas?
